Purple, Yellow, Red, And Green

Purple, yellow, red, and green,
The king cannot reach, nor yet the queen,
Nor can Old Noll, whose power’s so great,
Tell me this riddle while I count eight.

    Old Noll is Oliver Cromwell an english general and politician; defeated Royalists at battle of Marston Moor 1644; 1st lord protector of England 1653-1658.

    This Nursery Rhyme is a riddle too.
    The answer is: “a rainbow”.
